Give us the most secret exploits of Bricriu. Speak of Odin’s darkest thoughts as he hanged from the windswept tree; of Jesus as He hanged from the Cross; of CuCullain as he stood against the stone. Weave us tales of queens, ash-boys, heroic children, lust, murder, afterlife. Tell us of Ragnarok, of the Valley of the Black Pig, of Achilles, of the great warrior Maui. Alternative planes are best left to sword-and-sorcery ventures. We want blood and snow, cruel tales and witchery. Stay rooted in Planet Earth, in Yggdrasil, in histories of Ninja, Mongols, Sarmatians, Pirates. Reveal through your grotesquerie and horror the reasons we seek peace, and ensue it.
If your story includes children being hurt, that is alright as long as it fits with your story and there is no gratuitous paedophila or violence.
No fan fiction, RPG, or stories including copyrighted characters, places, or ideas.
We will accept previously published material, but you must acknowledge that publisher.
Multiple submissions up to three (3). No simultaneous submissions please.
Please include a brief bio with your submission.
Payment: $20 USD, plus a contributor copy. Word length: 100 - 5,000 words (query for longer stories).
Reading Period: begins 1st March 2008. Please do not submit your stories before then.
Deadline: 1st June 2008.
This is not a rolling submission and we will inform authors as to whether they are successful or not asap after this date.
To submit: Send your original in rich text format (rtf), in Courier New, with all italicised words italicised rather that underlined. Send as an attachment only. Put 'Blood Submission:' followed by your story title in the subject line of your e-mail. Send to: blood&snow@morriganbooks.com. In the body of your e-mail, please include your legal name, pseudonym, postal address, contact e-mail address, and the word count of your story.
